In collaboration with the United States and international public and private partners, the College of Architecture, Arts and Design at Virginia Tech continues to support and build the Center for High Performance Environments (CHPE). The CHPE serves as a resource for designers, engineers, system consultants, facility managers, owners, and others interested in improving the design and operation of built environments.

The CHPE takes a holistic approach to the design of places for human habitation while focusing on a range of multidisciplinary activities, including energy efficiency, sustainability, health and wellness, systems integration, and integrating appropriate technologies into built environments of the 21st century. The CHPE is unique in that an area of emphasis is the understanding and promotion of buildings of the future. The CHPE is also working to establish strong relationships with industry partners such as the V2T Roofing Systems, the Steelcase Furniture Company, EYP Architects and King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) in Saudi Arabia, as well as many architecture and engineering firms.
