Designing a gathering space for a green community required that the architecture be sensitive to the group’s interest in eco friendly design and their need for a central meeting, learning and living

space. I began the design process by analyzing the site and considering how it may be used to lessen the building’s energy requirements through solar, wind and geothermal power. The building is oriented toward the southern sun and winds, and built into the hillside.

I chose to take advantage of the pre-existing house on the site, as well, by converting it into greenhouse space.

Reusing architecture, instead of tearing down and rebuilding, saves material and lowers the amount of energy required for construction.
